Today, I want to discuss how to navigate life’s challenges. Last time, we discussed why we face challenges. I encourage you to read that and come back to this blog. Today, we are going to look at the Israelites. Through Jesus, we have a new covenant. As Christians, we tend to read more in the New Testament, as it discusses our new relationship through Christ. However, the Old Testament is an example for us to see what to do and what not to do.
After wandering in the wilderness for 40 years, the Israelites went to take the Promised Land. The wonderful land that flowed with milk and honey. Well, that promised land had people living in it. For the Israelites to take possession of the land, they were going to have to fight battles, just like we have to fight battles in our own lives. Now, God promised them this land. They were following God, and they faced battles. How can that be? Sometimes we think that we will not face any challenges when following God; however, the opposite is true. If the devil sees that you are following God’s plan for your life and are expanding the kingdom of God, he is going to do everything in his power to try to stop you. But we know he cannot!
The Israelites faced numerous battles, but they never suffered any casualties. God brought them through each fight spotless. This is because they listened and followed God. They would only go into battle when they knew God was on their side and had told them to fight! In Joshua 7, someone in Israel had sinned before they went into battle against Ai, resulting in the death of 36 people. Joshua was distraught. He knew that something had gone wrong because someone had died. Today, if only 36 people died in a major battle, the generals would consider the battle a success! This shows the hand of God at work among the Israelites! They had to face battles to obtain God’s promise, but God always brought them through unscathed.
In our lives, we face battles daily, but we know that through Christ, we have the victory! When you follow God’s plan for your life, the devil will send problems across your path, but do not be discouraged! Problems do not necessarily mean that you are on the wrong path! If you feel like you are doing what God told you to do, and storms are coming your way, keep your trust in Jesus, and He will lead you through the storm!
